4 Decades Old Shipwreck In Saudi Arabia Converted Into A Tourist Attraction
The Greek Cargo vessel named Georgios G. is now a tourist attraction for visitors and locals in Tabuk that lies northwest of Saudi Arabia.
The 40-year-old ship, which was constructed in the UK measures 71.6 meters in length, 11 meters in width, and 4.9 meters in height. It had started sailing in 1978 from one of the Greek ports situated toward the Aqaba port.
While sailing on international waters, the vessel deviated from its route eastward toward the waters of the Kingdom, hitting once-pristine coral reefs near “Bi’r Al Mashi”. This resulted in a hole in its body, allowing water to flood the front part, multiplying its load and resulting in difficulty in the vessel’s movement.
Since the accident, the vessel has been in the same location with over two-thirds of its shell immersed in water while the tilted body and front overlooks the sea.
